Recently, the Executive Committee of the SCMS has been considering where we want to be as an organization and how we can best engage the political process and encourage our members to do the same. We feel strongly that increased advocacy can help educate and empower our elected officials to pursue pro-medicine legislation in Tallahassee.
The SCMS Leadership felt that it would be best to start slow by initially tethering our efforts to the OCMS PAC. As participation and interest grow, the organization may then decide whether it wants to form an SCMS PAC or if collaboration with OCMS PAC is sufficient.
With that being said, if you haven't already, you should be receiving your 2017 dues statement in the mail. We have included a Voluntary PAC line item on the dues statement for those of you who are interested in supporting this effort. These funds will go to the OCMS PAC but an SCMS task force being led by Ryan Hall, M.D., will provide input into the distribution of the funds and advise the OCMS PAC on who we should support in our area.
I hope you will consider participating in this endeavor by your donations and your time. If you're interested in serving on the PAC task force, please contact the SCMS office.
